Birthday Unicorns or is it an Alicorn?

Ah its birthday time again at Shipwrights Cottage. Hand sewing and designing toys for children is a wonderful thing. So far this year this is unicorn number 5.

This unicorn was sewn using an up-cycled silk dress. She was hand stitched, then filled with carded wool. The mane and tail are silk/cotton thread. The horn is hand carved crab apple (that was fun to carve). The detachable wings are made from the same silk eco-dyed using eucalyptus leaves. The silk is stitched over a quince tree hoop.

The unicorn pattern I used is from pcbangles but I have amended aspects of the pattern to suit my style.

Shipwright Cottage next workshop can teach you how to make one of these lovelies.
